Porcelain Veneers Davis, CA
At Davis Dental Practice, we want to do everything we can to ensure your satisfaction with your smile. For minor imperfections, we can provide you with porcelain veneers. Veneers are thin “shells” that are designed to bond right over the front surface of your teeth, and can cover many different issues, giving you a complete and beautiful smile.
What Issues Can Veneers Fix?
Veneers are a great option for a number of different dental imperfections:
• |
Minor chips and cracks
|
• |
Natural gaps between your teeth
|
• |
Teeth that are uneven or misshapen
|
• |
Teeth that have suffered from uneven wear
|
• |
Discolored teeth that cannot otherwise be fixed by professional whitening methods. These types of discoloration may include teeth that were discolored from birth or teeth that have suffered trauma |
Why Use Porcelain?
Veneers can be made out of porcelain or a composite resin, but the majority of our veneers are made from porcelain. This is because porcelain can be made to match perfectly with the color of your natural teeth, with the use of a color guide. Porcelain is also a stronger material than composite resin, lasting upwards of 20 years or more with proper care.
What Is the Process for Veneers?
Before you get your veneers, you will first need a consultation during which we will make the determination if they are the right course of action. Then, if this is the case, getting your veneers will take two visits. During your first visit, the tooth, or teeth if you are having more than one, is prepared. A thin layer of the tooth’s enamel will need to be replaced. This ensures that the veneer sits properly on your tooth and has a perfectly natural appearance. A local anesthetic may be administered to help deal with any discomfort. Next, impressions of the tooth are taken and we will use a color guide to match the color of your teeth. The impression and color information are sent to a lab to create your custom veneer. If necessary, you will be provided with a temporary one while you wait for your permanent one, which can take anywhere from one to two weeks.
On your second visit, your veneer will be applied. Before it is, however, we will check to make sure that it fits properly and that it blends in perfectly with the surrounding teeth. If all is well, he will bond it to the tooth. In order to do this, an acidic gel is first applied to create a rough surface, which helps to strengthen bonding. After the gel is cleaned off and the tooth dried, the veneer will be cemented firmly in place. When you look in the mirror, all you will see is a perfect, beautiful smile.
How to Care for Veneers
Caring for your veneers is no different than caring for the rest of your teeth. Simply, brush, floss and use mouthwash as normal. And, of course, make sure that you keep regular dentist appointments. Not only is this good for your oral health, it will give our doctors a chance to check on the veneers and make sure that they are healthy as well. You should, however, avoid biting on anything particularly hard—hard candies, ice, fingernails—as these actions put excess pressure on veneers and can cause chipping. Any issues should be addressed as soon as possible.
