How are Implant-Supported Dentures Different?
In the past, an entire arch of missing teeth was replaced with a denture. Traditional dentures, which are still available today, is a removable prosthesis that consists of an acrylic base that supports acrylic resin teeth. The denture is made from a mold of your mouth, and the base is designed to rest directly on your gums. Dentures require special care. They need to be taken out each night and cleaned thoroughly before being left to soak overnight in a denture cleaning solution. After cleaning your dentures, you then need to clean your gums and other teeth. Because dentures cannot stop bone loss in the jaw, the bone continues to weaken and change shape, which means that the prosthesis needs to be periodically replaced to accommodate your changing mouth.
