Implant-Supported Dentures
Davis, CA

Diagram of All on 4 Dental Implant supported dentures for tooth replacement from Davis Dental PracticeTooth loss has many causes, gum disease, tooth decay, bruxism, facial trauma. No matter how your tooth loss occurs, the effects are all the same. Moreover, the more teeth you lose, the worse these effects become. Eating becomes a major challenge, as does communicate through speech. Your once beautiful smile deteriorates and takes your confidence with it. Your jaw begins to grow weak from lack of stimulation and gradually changes shape.

When you lose an entire arch of teeth, this can also change your facial shape, causing your lips and cheeks to sink in, your skin to sag, and wrinkles to form, all of which can age you several years beyond your actual age. At Davis Dental Practice, we can restore an entire arch of missing teeth with implant supported dentures.

What are Implant Supported Dentures?

Implant supported dentures are a type of dental implant designed to replace an entire arch of missing teeth. Your replacement teeth rely on small titanium posts, which are surgically implanted into your jawbone. The posts integrate into the jaw as the bone heals, turning them essentially into roots, and the crowns are attached on top with small screws. There are a few different types of implant supported dentures:
•  Fixed implant-supported dentures: This is one of the most common types of implant supported dentures. This restoration uses 6 to 8 implants to support your teeth.
•  Bar-retained dentures: 6 to 8 implants are used in this restoration as well. A bar connects the implants, and your teeth clip into place on it.
•  All-on-4® Treatment Concept: This treatment is used when you have lost too much bone mass to support 6 to 8 implants. Instead, it uses four implants that are placed in such a way as to take full advantage of your existing bone mass, avoiding the need for a bone graft.

What are the Benefits of Implant-Supported Dentures?

Implant supported dentures provide numerous benefits. Along with restoring the basic functions of eating and speaking, benefits include:
•  They look and feel just like your natural teeth.
•  Greater comfort.
•  They are permanent.
•  They are easy to care for.
•  They do not need to be replaced as traditional dentures do.
•  The posts stimulate your jawbone just like the roots of your natural teeth, stopping and preventing bone loss in the jaw. This helps to keep the jaw strong and healthy.

How are Implant-Supported Dentures Different?

In the past, an entire arch of missing teeth was replaced with a denture. Traditional dentures, which are still available today, is a removable prosthesis that consists of an acrylic base that supports acrylic resin teeth. The denture is made from a mold of your mouth, and the base is designed to rest directly on your gums. Dentures require special care. They need to be taken out each night and cleaned thoroughly before being left to soak overnight in a denture cleaning solution. After cleaning your dentures, you then need to clean your gums and other teeth. Because dentures cannot stop bone loss in the jaw, the bone continues to weaken and change shape, which means that the prosthesis needs to be periodically replaced to accommodate your changing mouth.
