Dental Implants - Multiple Tooth
Davis CA

Tooth loss has many causes. While commonly the result of gum disease, it can also be the result of tooth decay, bruxism, or facial trauma. There are several issues that arise when you lose teeth, especially when you lose several teeth in any given area of the mouth.
•  Missing teeth make eating more difficult, which can mean you may no longer be able to enjoy your favorite foods
•  Speaking becomes more challenging
•  Your smile is affected, which can lead to a decrease in confidence
•  Your jawbone also begins to deteriorate, which then leads to the gradual change in its shape.

Replacing missing teeth is essential for giving you back the functions of your mouth. Davis Dental Practice can help with multiple tooth implants.

What are Dental Implants?

Traditionally, sections of missing teeth have been replaced in one of two ways. Depending upon the number of teeth you lost, you would either receive a dental bridge or a partial denture. While both of these options are still available today, they do have several drawbacks.

Dental implants are a modern alternative to these traditional treatments. They consist of small titanium posts, which we surgically implant into the jawbone. They can be used to replace any number of teeth. When you are missing several teeth in one area of your mouth, one or more implants may be used to support your new teeth. The posts are integrated into the jawbone as you heal from surgery. Your jawbone fuses to them, turning them into stable roots that then hold your new teeth securely in place.

Reasons for Dental Implants

There are many reasons why you should consider dental implants. Benefits of dental implants include:
•  They look and feel just like your natural teeth
•  They restore the basic functions of your missing teeth, including eating and speech
•  Your smile, and your confidence, are restored
•  They are more comfortable
•  Your adjacent teeth do not need to be altered in any way
•  They can be cared for just like the rest of your natural teeth, and do not require the maintenance that partial dentures do
•  They provide a permanent solution
•  Your new teeth are held securely in place
•  The posts stimulate your jawbone just like the roots of your natural teeth, this helps to preserve the integrity of your jawbone and prevent bone loss

How are Multiple Tooth Implants Placed?

Unlike traditional treatments, dental implants require a surgical procedure, which is done under local anesthetic and sedation. Incisions are made in the gums, and holes drilled into the bone. We then place the posts into these holes and suture your gums closed around them. Finally, temporary teeth are placed onto the posts, and they remain there while you heal.

Your recovery can last anywhere from several weeks to several months, depending upon the number of implants that are placed. Your bone gradually fuses to the posts during this time, integrating them into the jaw. Your progress is closely monitored. When you have fully healed, the temporary teeth are removed, and impressions are taken. Those impressions are sent to a lab where your permanent crowns are made. As soon as they are ready, the crowns are screwed into place and you are left with a permanent, beautiful solution to your tooth loss.
